Colloquium on Carbon Regulation and Energy Policy
The Lenfest Center for Sustainable Energy and the Columbia Climate Center at the Earth Institute are co-sponsoring an interdisciplinary colloquium on carbon regulation and energy policy. The discussion series, which will meet a few times each month for a light working dinner, will provide Columbia scholars with an informal opportunity to present their latest research to their peers. The colloquium is open to any topic related to carbon and energy, though we imagine that most researchers will fall into one of the following three categories:
• Examination of market-based mechanisms and other forms of regulation, both in the U.S. and internationally.
• Proposals for a post-Kyoto international climate change agreement.
• Discussion of new technologies and technology diffusion.
We will meet on Tuesday evenings at 6 pm for 45 minutes of presentation, followed by roughly 45 minutes of discussion. The colloquium will be held in the Seeley W. Mudd Building (Room 924); RSVPs are not required but are appreciated. Our upcoming schedule is as follows:
3/11 Ulrich Wagner: The Climate Change Levy in the United Kingdom
Post-doctoral Research Fellow, the Earth Institute
3/25 Louis LeGuyader: Use of Financial Derivatives in Managing Carbon Regulation and Energy
4/8 Cassidy Johnson: Photovoltaic Technology in Housing Developments
Post-doctoral Research Fellow, the Earth Institute
4/22 Shannon Arvizu: Corporate Responses to Climate Change: The Voluntary Institutionalization of Carbon Measuring, Reducing, and Offsetting in U.S. Firms
Ph.D. Candidate in Sociology
